Sangbad voice 9, National News Desk: Delhi court on Thursday, April 23,
2026, sent 19-year-old Rahul Meena, the former domestic help accused of
murdering the daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, to
four days of police custody for further investigation.
Judicial Magistrate Deepika Thakaran approved the Delhi Police’s request for
custodial interrogation, stating that investigators need more time to probe the
serious nature of the crime. However, the court clarified that the questioning
would not be treated as a formal confession.
Rahul Meena was produced in the packed courtroom with his face covered by a
cloth. During the hearing, the magistrate asked about the injuries mentioned in
his medico-legal report, to which Meena replied that he was injured while
getting down from the terrace.
What Happened
According to Delhi Police, the victim was a 22-year-old woman and the
daughter of a senior IRS officer. She was reportedly an IIT graduate and was
preparing for the civil services examination.
Police said the victim was allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled to
death using a mobile phone charger at her family’s residence in Southeast Delhi
on Wednesday morning.
The incident came to light when her parents returned home from the gym and
found her with severe head and facial injuries. She was immediately rushed to a
hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police Investigation
Investigators believe Rahul Meena allegedly entered the house between 6:30
a.m. and 7:30 a.m. using a key card that was usually kept in the shoe rack for
domestic help. Since he had worked at the house for around 18 months, he was
aware of its location.
CCTV footage reportedly showed Meena entering the house at around 6:35 a.m.
and leaving at approximately 7:22 a.m. carrying a backpack.
Police suspect that after committing the assault and murder, he attempted to
unlock a locker using the victim’s fingerprint. When that failed, he allegedly
broke it open with a screwdriver and stole cash and jewellery worth around Rs
2.5 lakh.
He is also accused of changing his clothes and shoes after the crime to
avoid detection.
Previous Background
Rahul Meena, who belongs to Rajasthan’s Alwar district, had been dismissed
from the officer’s house two months ago after neighbours complained that he had
borrowed around Rs 1.5 lakh from them.
Police said he had allegedly lost money in online gaming and took loans from
neighbours, which were later repaid by the victim’s father. Following this, the
family reportedly asked him to leave.
Investigators also found that Meena allegedly committed a similar sexual
assault case in Alwar before fleeing to Delhi.
He reportedly sold three mobile phones for Rs 13,000 and hired an ambulance
for Rs 6,000 to travel from Alwar to Delhi. After reaching Delhi, he allegedly
left the vehicle without paying the driver and walked to the victim’s
residence.
Charges Filed
Delhi Police have registered a case against Rahul Meena under sections
related to:

Police are now trying to recover the victim’s missing mobile phone,
reconstruct the accused’s entry and exit route, and determine whether any other
