When crossing the railway line with the cubs, 3 elephants were killed in
Rajabhatkhawa, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. The occurrence transpired in
Rajabhatkhawa, Alipurduar, on Monday morning. As per local sources, the
elephants met their demise as a result of a collision with a freight train en
route to Siliguri. Authorities from the railway and forest departments promptly
arrived at the scene.
On Monday morning, a tragic
incident occurred at Rajabhatkhawa in Alipurduar, where three elephants,
including cubs, lost their lives after being hit by a freight train en route to
Siliguri. Forest Department sources reported that the collision took place
around 7:20 am at the Rajabhatkhawar Shikhari Gate area. The elephants died
instantly, and officials from both the railway and forest departments arrived
at the scene soon after.
The incident caused a temporary
halt in train movement on that line, and the forest department is now
expressing concern over the recurring deaths of elephants due to train
accidents.
DRM Alipurduar Amarjit Gautam
reported that a tragic incident occurred between Rajabhatkhawa and Kalchini
sections at 7:20 am, resulting in the deaths of three elephants due to a
collision with a cargo truck. Officials were immediately dispatched to the scene,
including forest officials. The train driver and those on duty are undergoing
medical examinations to determine if they were under the influence of any
substances. Train operations on this line were halted for over three hours.
This unfortunate event is being thoroughly investigated.
