Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Police have arrested four people in connection with the death of a child named Jimha (3) and the illness of four others of the same family in Belkuchi, Sirajganj. They were arrested in the case of Belkuchi police station Inspector Saiful Islam (unarmed) on Tuesday (February 27) afternoon.
Earlier, on Monday evening, five members of the family, including Qayum Uddin's daughter Jimha, fell ill after consuming saline. He died after being taken to a hospital.The arrestees are Amirul Islam, a grocer of the same village; Hafizul Islam, a wholesaler of sagar and saline; and Anisur Rahman, an unauthorized manufacturer of Nafis Tasty Aline (saline) in Samesspur Bazar of the upazila.
Rabiul Islam, the grandfather of the deceased, said Jimha died before he could be taken to the hospital. Four others, including my daughter, are seriously ill. They were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in Bogra. They are now in Bogra.
Belkuchi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman confirmed the matter. During their interrogation, it was revealed that the saline was not approved. A case was later filed against them.
He added that empty saline wrappers were collected from the house of the deceased child in the morning. Unapproved saline called Nafis Tasty Align is found in wrappers. It has been produced locally for a long time. Unused saline was later seized from the factory.
