Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: In Jamalpur's Bakshiganj upazila, a rape victim is sitting on a hunger strike demanding marriage at the house of Shakil Miah in Birgao Kanda Para village of Battajore union. The victim has lodged a complaint with the police in this regard. However, police could not arrest him as he was absconding.
It is known that Shakil Miah (22), son of Aminul Islam of Birgao Kanda Para village in Bakshiganj upazila, developed a love affair with Kalam Miah's daughter (19) of the same village. At one stage of the love affair, Shakil Mia developed physical relations with the woman several times by luring her into marriage. In this situation, when the rape victim pressured Shakil Mia to marry her, Shakil Mia refused to marry her. The villagers have lodged a complaint with the police in this regard. As the incident was proved in the arbitration, the parents present in the arbitration decided to marry the rapist Shakil Mia. Shakil Mia ran away from his home after deciding to get married in the village arbitration. Other members of the family are also absconding.
Later, the victim lodged a complaint at the Bakshiganj police station. Shakil Mia is the sole accused in the case. However, police could not arrest the accused as he was absconding. The girl has been sitting on a hunger strike at the house of her rapist, Shakil Mia, for a week, demanding marriage.
Mokhlesur Rahman Jewel, chairman of the union, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. I have tried several times to solve this problem. But the matter could not be resolved as the family members of the rapist, Shakil Mia, did not agree.
Bakshiganj police station Second Officer Tarek Masud said, "We have received the complaint. The investigation is ongoing. The police will arrest Shakil as soon as the evening comes.
