Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, disclosed on Thursday that a remarkable
1,600 out of 4,431 expectant mothers relocated to health facilities due to the
onslaught of cyclone Dana and have successfully delivered.
The state has orchestrated the evacuation of a staggering 584,888
individuals—a figure anticipated to surpass 600,000 by the dawn of Friday, he
elaborated. "These evacuees are currently residing in 6,008 cyclone
shelters where they are receiving sustenance, medical care, potable water, and
other vital provisions," Majhi articulated.
The chief minister noted that Balasore district experienced the most
significant evacuation, with 172,916 individuals relocated to safety, trailed
by Mayurbhanj, which accounted for 100,000 evacuees. Furthermore, 75,000
individuals were extracted from Bhadrak, 58,000 from Jajpur, and 46,000 from
Kendrapara. Earlier in the day, a woman who had been evacuated from Cuttack
district welcomed a baby boy at Niali Hospital.
This birth was publicized by the state government's Information and Public
Relations (I&PR) department, underscoring that the mother was among the
4,431 pregnant women who sought refuge in cyclone shelters.
