11 officials and workers of SB Knitting Limited
in the Savar EPZ area were traveling to Sylhet, according to Itakhola Highway
Police. When the microbus neared the Shashpur Shaheed Minar region of Itakhola
on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, it collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound stone-laden
truck coming from the opposite direction. Five people passed away immediately.
Two more victims passed away from their wounds at the Narsingdi District
Hospital after the injured were brought there.
We heard a huge boom late at night heading near
the highway, according to local reports. When I heard the screaming and hurried
to the highway, I found that the truck and the microbus had hit head-on. The
microbus is upside down, while the truck is on its side. The victims are
sobbing. Later, with the assistance of locals, we managed to rescue them and
make plans to transport them to the hospital. "My brother and others were
supposed to visit Sylhet," the deceased's relatives said in a statement to
the reporter. However, I learned over the phone that his coworker, who also
happened to be his brother, had perished in a car accident. I've arrived to
take the body right now.
Gazipur Region Superintendent of Police, Md.
Mostafizur Rahman, said, "We went to the spot and found that the truck was
in its own lane, while the microbus was lying in another lane. It is believed
that the driver of the microbus lost control and collided with the truck while
overtaking the microbus. We have arrested the driver of the truck, and he is
being treated. We are investigating the exact cause of the accident, and the
vehicles have been removed from the highway and brought to the Itakhola
outpost. Traffic on the highway is currently normal.
