Uma Shanti, a Ukrainian singer, has been booked for 'insulting' tricolor at a performance in Pune

Voice 9, News Desk: A police official stated on Tuesday that Ukrainian singer Uma Shanti and another person were arrested for allegedly insulting the tricolor during a concert in Maharashtra's Pune.

According to the PTI, the artist is the lead singer of the musical group 'Shanti People,' which combines EDM (electronic dance music) with Vedic mantras. The alleged disrespect to the national flag occurred on the eve of Independence Day (August 14) during a musical event held at a restaurant-cum-bar in Pune's Mundhwa neighborhood.

According to a Mundhwa police station officer, singer Shanti, who was holding the tricolor and waving it while singing at the performance, unexpectedly tossed the flag into the audience.

"She and event organizer Kartik More have been booked under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Maharashtra Police Act," he added.

Another officer stated that the singer and the event organizer have been served with a notice requesting that they participate in the investigation into the incident.
