Dhaka Bureau: On August 15, the 48th
martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National
Mourning Day were celebrated. The 48th
martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, architect of freedom and Liberation War commander-in-chief. On this day
in 1975, the people of Bangladesh lost their Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in one of history's most cruel and heartbreaking
murders.
Before his death,
Bangabandhu maintained a place in Bengalis' hearts as a politician due to his
bravery, sacrifice, commitment, and leadership qualities. This quickly elevated
him to the role of architect of liberty and father of the country.
The Bengali people will
remember their great leader with respect and affection on this day of sorrow.
Various political, social, and cultural organizations in the country have
organized elaborate programs to commemorate Bangabandhu's 48th martyrdom
anniversary and National Mourning Day.
President Md Abdul Hamid
has released a separate statement commemorating the event. Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina and Shahabuddin.
In his
speech, Shahabuddin stated that the values and ideals of Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, will always encourage freedom-loving
people to attain their rights and to rouse the people against exploitation and
oppression.
In her speech, Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that the assassins were able to kill Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujib but not his goals and ideals. However, anti-independence communal
groupings, as well as anti-democratic and anti-development forces, continue to
conspire in various ways both at home and abroad. I am asking all citizens to
stand ready at all times to defend the country's growth continuity and
democracy by fighting any ill acts and machinations of conspiratorial forces.
Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman devoted himself to reshaping the newly independent country
through struggle, sacrifice, intelligence, and hard work. But in the early
hours of August 15, 1975, some misguided members of the army killed Bangabandhu
and his family at his Dhanmondi residence. Bangabandhu's wife Bangamata
Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, Bangabandhu's children Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal, and
Sheikh Russell, and daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosie Jamal were killed
by the killers.
Bangabandhu's nephew
Sheikh Naser, brother-in-law Abdur Rob Serniabat, his sons Arif and Sukanta
Babu, daughter Baby, Bangabandhu's nephew Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, his
pregnant wife Arzu Moni, Abdul Nayeem Khan Rintu and Colonel Jamil and 18
family members and close relatives could not escape from this heinous murder.
Bangabandhu's two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana survived as they
were abroad.
Awami League General
Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today urged
the countrymen to observe the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day with due
dignity and solemnity following the health safety rules.
At the same time, the
leaders and workers of all branches of the party, including all districts,
metropolitan, upazila, municipal, union, and ward, have been remembered and
celebrated by taking various appropriate programs in line with the central
program.
