A Policeman killed and two injured after a pickup van overturned in Gazipur

 


Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau A tragic incident occurred in Gazipur when a police officer lost his life due to a pickup van overturning after being struck by a truck. Additionally, an SI and another constable sustained injuries. This unfortunate accident took place on Saturday, November 25, at approximately 4:00 am while the patrol vehicle was attempting a U-turn on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Rajendrapur Chowrasta area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police. The deceased officer has been identified as Constable Bitan Barua, while the injured individuals are SI Moshabbir and Constable Md Akkas Uddin.

Ziaul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Sadar police station in Gazipur Metropolitan Police, reported that on Thursday night, SI Moshabbir, Constable Bitan Barua, and Md Akkas Uddin were conducting patrol duty in the Rajendrapur area. During their patrol on the highway from Salna to Mymensingh, an unidentified truck collided with a pickup van carrying a policeman while attempting a U-turn in the Rajandrepur Chowrasta area.

As a result of the accident, Police SI Moshabbir, Constable Bitan Barua, and Md Akkas Uddin sustained injuries. Once they were rescued, they were immediately taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. Unfortunately, upon examination by the doctor on duty, it was declared that Constable Bitan Barua had passed away. The truck responsible for the accident and its driver have not been apprehended yet. Ziaul Islam stated that appropriate legal measures would be taken in relation to this incident.
