Voice 9, National Desk, Ghaziabad: On Friday, a maulvi was apprehended in this area for allegedly coercing a woman into converting to Islam by convincing her that it would liberate her from malevolent forces, as stated by the police. Maulvi Sarfaraz was taken into custody after Akshay Srivastava, the woman's 35-year-old son, lodged a complaint against him.
In his complaint, Srivastava
informed the police that his mother, Meenu, aged 45, had been experiencing
mental and physical difficulties since 2017 and had sought the maulvi's
assistance based on recommendations from certain individuals. According to
Srivastava, his mother discarded idols and images of Hindu deities, distancing
herself from her family's religious practices, in order to embrace Islam.
ACP Nandgram Ravi Kumar Singh
stated that the maulvi was apprehended at the Morti village tri-section. During
the interrogation, Sarfaraz confessed to the police that he had been practicing
exorcism in the area for the past eight years and had been compelling ill
individuals to convert to Islam by exploiting their fear of supernatural
entities, Singh added. Sarfaraz has been charged under sections of the
Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act and the Drugs
and Magic Remedies Act, he further mentioned.
