Bureau: Two young men, Shakil Ahmed and Salauddin, have been sentenced to life
imprisonment for the heinous crime of raping a mother and daughter in Habiganj,
Bangladesh. In addition to the imprisonment, they have also been fined Rs. 1
lakh.
The verdict
was delivered by Judge Mohammad Zahidul Haque of Habiganj Women and Child
Torture Prevention Tribunal-2 on Tuesday at approximately 11:30a.m.
Shakil Ahmed, aged 22 and son of Safiq Mia from Jivadarshan village in
Chunarughat upazila, and Salauddin, aged 20 and son of Hushan Ali from the same
village, were found guilty of entering the victim's house in Chunarughat
upazila on October 2, 2020, and committing the heinous act of rape against the
mother and daughter.
The brave
girl, who became the plaintiff in this case, filed a rape complaint against the
accused at Chunarughat police station on October 4. The court reached its
verdict after considering the testimonies of all ten witnesses involved in the
case. It is worth noting that Salahuddin, one of the convicted individuals, was
not present when the verdict was announced as he was on the run. State lawyer
Abul Manchur Chowdhury expressed satisfaction with the court's decision.
