Dhaka Bureau: The President of the Awami League and Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina have stated that this election is a milestone. Such enthusiasm for an
election has never been seen before. The people of the country have voted with
great enthusiasm.
On Monday
(December 8) at 3 p.m. at the Ganabhaban, she spoke at a courtesy meeting and
exchange of opinions with local and foreign observers and journalists on the
occasion of the twelfth National Parliament election.
Sheikh
Hasina said, "I have participated in the election eight times, and again
this time. This time, the people have participated with great enthusiasm. 80%
of the people in Bangladesh were poor. Bangabandhu's goal was to empower the
people of the country. I have to complete the work that my father started."
She said,
"August 15, 1975. 18 members of my family were killed. My younger sister,
Sheikh Rehana, and I survived. We were refugees for six years. A very difficult
life. In 1981, the people of the country brought me back to the country."
The
President of the Awami League said, "Ensuring people's voting rights is my
goal. In this election, I have made it open for everyone to choose their
candidates. The people have voted with great enthusiasm. This victory is the
victory of the people."
She said,
"A party has boycotted the election. The party created fear of the
election because they do not have public support."
She thanked
the foreign and local observers and journalists for coming to Bangladesh on
behalf of herself, her family, and the people of the country. She said,
"You will return to your respective countries and speak about our country.
Our country is very beautiful."
At this
time, local and foreign observers, journalists, Bangabandhu's younger daughter
Sheikh Rehana, and the Prime Minister's daughter Putul were present with the
leadership of the Awami League.
