Voice 9,
North-East Desk: A violent altercation erupted in Namsai, resulting in 15
individuals sustaining injuries, prompting the imposition of Section 144 CrPC
by the district administration. The incident stemmed from a case of road rage,
where a recklessly driven car nearly collided with the vehicle of Krutasi
Makat, who was en route to Koseng village.
Subsequently,
Makat and two companions pursued the vehicle and intercepted it in the local
market area. Tensions escalated as an argument ensued, and the situation
further deteriorated when the driver, Badal Tanti, summoned his family and
friends. Allegedly, a group of approximately 20 individuals associated with
Tanti proceeded to assault Makat and his companions, inciting clashes between
the two factions. The altercation reportedly culminated in the discharge of a
firearm.
Security
personnel swiftly intervened, managing to restore order at the scene. In
response to the incident, the district administration enforced Section 144
CrPC, prohibiting the assembly of large groups of people. Namsai SP Sangey
Thinley confirmed that the situation is now contained, disclosing that a total
of 15 individuals from both groups sustained injuries and were subsequently
referred to the AMC in Dibrugarh, Assam. However, Thinley clarified that the
injuries were not severe.
Subsequently,
certain groups initiated road blockades at the Dirak gate and the Mahadevpur
bridge area, which were subsequently lifted. Concurrently, the All Tai Khamti
Singpho Students’ Union (ATKSSU) submitted a memorandum to the deputy
commissioner, urging the apprehension of Badal Tanti. The union advocated for
Tanti's detention under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention)
Act, 2014, and emphasized the necessity for adequate compensation to be
provided to the injured parties, including an individual who sustained a
gunshot wound inflicted by Tanti's instigated group.
Furthermore,
the union called for a revision of the order issued by the DC during the
imposition of Section 144 CrPC. They contested the portrayal of the clash as
communal, asserting that the altercation between Krutasi Makat and Badal Tanti
was fundamentally personal in nature and was manipulated by Tanti to appear as
a communal conflict. Consequently, the union urged for the amendment of the 144
CrPC order to accurately reflect the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
