Modi arrives at Arambagh for two-day Bengal visit

Rajat Roy, Arambagh, Voice 9: The impending arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Arambagh for a two-day visit has sparked anticipation. During his visit, he is scheduled to deliver speeches at two rallies in Arambagh and Krishnanagar, as well as inaugurate projects valued at ₹22,000 crore during separate events.

In Krishnanagar, Modi is slated to address a gathering on Saturday in an assembly segment that was won by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) turncoat Mukul Roy in 2021 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. Meanwhile, the BJP’s Madhusudan Bag holds the position of assembly member from Arambagh. Notably, TMC’s Aparupa Poddar secured the Arambagh Lok Sabha seat for a second time in 2019, a year in which the BJP claimed 18 of Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats.

With the BJP aiming to secure 35 seats in Bengal, including Krishnanagar, the political landscape is rife with competition. TMC’s Mahua Moitra, who was ousted from the Lok Sabha due to bribery allegations after raising questions in Parliament, emerged victorious in the Krishnanagar seat in 2019. It is worth mentioning that the BJP’s Satyabrata Mookerjee clinched the seat in 1999 and subsequently assumed the role of Union Minister.

Samik Bhattacharya, a prominent BJP figure, expressed expectations that the Prime Minister will emphasize the establishment of a corruption-free society in Bengal when he engages with the public. Furthermore, it is anticipated that he will address the topics of development and the revitalization of industries within the state.
