Pickup-Laguna head-on collision: 5 of the same family killed



Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau ঃ A pickup truck hit a passenger train in Jaintapur, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Five members of a family were killed in the mishap. Five others have been injured. The accident took place in front of the Darbast Palli Bidyut office of the upazila around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 18.
The deceased are Mangali Patra, 50, wife of Nanda Patra; Sushmita Patra, wife of Krishna Patra; and Ritu Patra, son of Sukendu Patra.
According to local people, the collision took place between a pickup and a Laguna in front of the Sylhet Rural Electricity Office in the Darbost area of the Sylhet-Tamabil highway around 12:45 p.m. on Monday. Two people died on the spot, and three others were at the hospital.



Jaintapur model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam said the victims were going to Mokamganj on the Sylhet-Tamabil road to attend the marriage ceremony of Mangoli Patra's daughter. A Jain man from Sylhet city was going to pick up a cow from Darbast Bazar. The pickup (Sylhet-Metro 11-2264) hit the lagoon when it reached the office of Darbast Palli Bidyut.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue for autopsy, he added. The injured were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. The police are taking the necessary steps in the case. Two weeks ago, Mokamganjis daughter Anamika got married to a Mongolian.
