Bangladesh: 3 killed in bus-motorcycle collision



Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Four people, including a woman, have been killed in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and an e-bike in Bagerhat district of Bangladesh. The other 3 persons suffered injuries.

The accident took place in the Katakhali area of the Fakirhat section of the Dhaka-Khulna highway on Monday morning. Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kotkhali Highway Police Station, Md. Ashraful Islam, confirmed the incident.

The deceased is Nipa Begum, 28, a school teacher and wife of Noman Sheikh of Muniganj area of Bagerhat. Masum (33) is the son of Shawkat Ali (40), a mason from the same area. The name of the other person killed has not been released.

SI Md. Ashraful Islam said the passenger was heading towards Noapara town from Katakhali around 8:30 am on Monday. On reaching the spot, the car collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Three people, including a school teacher, were killed on the spot. The rest 3 people suffered injuries. Two of the injured were taken to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. The bike was damaged in this incident.

Additional Superintendent of Bagerhat Police Raselur Rahman said one of the injured was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital. His name could not be ascertained.

Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mizanur Rahman said the body was recovered from the spot. The body will be handed over to the family after the postmortem. However, the truck driver fled from the spot soon after the incident.
