Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: A probe committee formed by the Dhaka University (DU) administration has submitted its probe report into the lynching of a young man at Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall on suspicion of being a thief. Police have arrested 8 people in connection with the incident. The university will take immediate administrative action against the eight accused.
This was informed in a press release issued by the Public Relations
Department of Dhaka University on Friday (September 20) evening.
"The Dhaka University administration is deeply saddened and
shocked by the tragic incident at Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall on Wednesday
night." In this context, the university administration has tried to take
legal action quickly, and within 24 hours, the investigation committee was
formed by the hall administration at 8:00am on Thursday, and the committee
submitted its report at 11:00pm on Thursday.
The law enforcers have already arrested six of the eight accused identified
by the probe committee with the help of a proctorial team. The university will
take immediate administrative action against the eight accused. The Dhaka
University administration is trying to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
Six people were arrested on Thursday. The arrested persons have been
identified as Mohammed Aslam, Mohammed Ajmal, Mohammed Ajmal, Mohammed Ajmal,
and Mohammed Saleem. Jalal is a student of the physics department and former
(recently resigned) deputy science and technology secretary of Chhatra League
for the academic year 2018-19. During the quota reform movement, he resigned
from the Chhatra League and was active in the anti-discrimination student
movement. The arrestee is Ahsan Ullah, a student of the 2018-19 academic year
and the deputy secretary of mass communication and development affairs of the
Chhatra League. On the other hand, Sumon is a student of the Department of
Soil, Water, and Environment of the university for the academic year 2021-22.
Muttaqeen is a student of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science at Sakin
University. Sajjad is a student of the Geography and Environment Department for
the academic year 2020-21.
