Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: At least eight people have been killed after a private
car lost control and fell into a canal on the Pirojpur-Nazirpur road in
Barisal. On Wednesday (October 9), Fire Service personnel went to the spot
after receiving information from the locals around 3pm and recovered eight
bodies from inside the private car.
The private car was supposed to go from Kuakata beach in Patuakhali to Dhaka
via Nazirpur in Pirojpur.
The dead include two women, two men and four children. Four of the deceased
have been identified. They are Motaleb, 45, his wife Sabina Akter, 30, daughter
Mukta, 12, and son Shoaib, 2. The family lives in Sherpur village in the
upazila. A relative of Shaon also confirmed the identity of the other four.
They are Shaon Mridha, 32, his wife Amena Begum, son Abdul, 3, and another son
Shahadat, 10.
The four are residents of Pirojpur's Nazirpur upazila. The bodies of the
deceased have been kept at the Pirojpur Sadar Hospital morgue. Murad, a
relative of Shaon, said Shaon met him at his village home in Hoglabunia of
Nazirpur upazila and came to Dhaka by road.
Pirojpur Additional Superintendent of Police Mukit Hasan said eight people were
killed when the car they were travelling in lost control. He was identified
from an ID card belonging to one of the victims, Motaleb. Motaleb worked as a
civil servant in the army.
