Sangbad Voice 9, New Delhi Bureau: A physician and five laborers tragically lost their lives when assailants unleashed gunfire at a construction site in Gagangir, located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by official sources on Sunday. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the assault on non-local workers, labeling it "dastardly and cowardly."
"Praying for the swift recovery of the injured, particularly those in critical condition who are being transferred to SKIMS, Srinagar," Mr. Abdullah conveyed via a post on X.
The attackers targeted a camp accommodating employees of a private firm engaged in the construction of an under-construction tunnel in the Gund region. In response, police and military forces have cordoned off the vicinity in pursuit of the perpetrators.
A senior police official disclosed that the militants indiscriminately fired upon the camp, which housed workers involved in the Z-Morh tunnel project along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. "A comprehensive search operation is currently underway in the area," he stated.
The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the incident, stating, "Terror incident in Gagangeer, Ganderbal. Area cordoned off by security forces."
The deceased have been identified as Gurmeet Singh, son of Dharam Singh from Gurdaspur, Punjab; Dr. Shahnawaz Qadir Dar from Nadigam, Budgam; Anil Kumar Shukla; Faheem Nazir; Shashi Abrol from Jammu; and Muhammad Hanif and Muhammad Kaleem from Bihar.
Among the injured are 35-year-old laborer Inder Yadav, son of Gareeb Dass from Bihar; 45-year-old laborer Mohan Lal, son of Soum Nath from Kathua; 30-year-old driver Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat from Safapora; and 36-year-old Jagtar Singh, son of Suresh Singh from Kathua, all of whom are receiving treatment at SKIMS, Soura. Additionally, 25-year-old Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Zahoor Ahmad from Preng, is among the injured.
