Sangbad Voice 9, New Delhi: The autopsy of the ten neonates who tragically perished in a conflagration at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the state-operated Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, commenced on Saturday morning. Each of the infants had sustained severe burn injuries prior to their untimely demise on Friday night.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who promptly arrived in Jhansi, conveyed to the press that the government is committed to ensuring an exhaustive investigation into this calamity. He declared that inquiries would be undertaken at three distinct levels—by the health department, law enforcement, and district administration—alongside a magisterial inquiry. He pledged that stringent measures would be enacted against those deemed culpable.
The inferno erupted at approximately 10:20 PM on Friday, prompting immediate notification of the authorities and hospital administration. Window panes were shattered to facilitate the rescue of the vulnerable infants from the NICU.
“The identities of all 49 neonates in the NICU have been ascertained. The autopsy of the ten infants who succumbed to the fire has commenced,” stated Dr. N. S. Sengar, principal of the medical college. The surviving neonates have been transferred to an alternative ward within the medical college, as well as to the district hospital and private medical facilities. The condition of the remaining 39 infants, who did not suffer burn injuries, is reported to be stable.
