Sangbad Voice 9, New Delhi: The remains of a woman and two children were transported to a
morgue in Silchar, Assam, on Friday, amidst escalating tensions in the
neighboring Jiribam district of Manipur, where three women and three children
were reportedly taken hostage by suspected Kuki militants earlier in the week.
Four days following the alleged abduction of the six individuals
during a confrontation involving the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and
local law enforcement, the Manipur police have yet to locate the missing
victims. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the women and children were seized by
a faction of suspected Kuki militants from the Bokobera locality in Jiribam
while another contingent was engaged in a firefight with the CRPF.
A government source disclosed that the police recovered three
bodies—a woman and two children—floating in the Barak River on Friday afternoon
(November 15, 2024), and efforts are underway to establish their identities.
Sources at the morgue of Silchar Medical College and Hospital
(SMHC) reported to NDTV that three bodies had been admitted there. Preliminary
examinations indicated that the remains belonged to two children and one adult
female. The corpses exhibited signs of bloating due to decomposition, as noted
by the sources.
The morgue, situated approximately 50 kilometers from Jiribam,
received the bodies around 7 PM on Friday. Autopsies for the remains discovered
in Jiribam are conducted at SMHC, attributed to the inadequate facilities
available in the town.
