Sangbad Voice 9, New Delhi Bureau: In a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, the death toll from the Jalgaon train accident has now risen to 13.Thirteen individuals lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries in a train accident that occurred on Wednesday in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra. The incident unfolded when passengers aboard the Pushpak Express exited their coaches due to a suspected fire, coinciding with the passage of the Karnataka Express on an adjacent track. Several passengers were struck by the moving train.
The alarming situation caused panic among the passengers, prompting some to leap onto the adjacent track in an attempt to escape. At that moment, the Bengaluru-New Delhi Karnataka Express was traveling in the opposite direction. Tragically, some passengers from the Pushpak Express who sought safety on the tracks were hit by the train, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
The government has responded promptly following the accident. The Centre has declared ex gratia payments of Rs 1.5 lakh to the families of each victim who lost their lives. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed that the state government will cover the medical costs for those who were injured in the incident.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reported that the district administration is collaborating with railway authorities to ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured. "Eight ambulances have been dispatched, and both the general hospital and nearby private facilities are prepared to treat the injured. Emergency equipment, including glass cutters and floodlights, has also been made available," stated Devendra Fadnavis.
