Biswajit Mondal, Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: On the Barisal-Jhalokati route in Bangladesh, a passenger bus lost control and fell into a pond in the Chhatrakanda section of the Jhalokati Sadar upazila. So far, the bodies of 15 people, including children, have been recovered. Several other people were injured.
The victims were not readily identifiable to the police or others. For medical attention, the injured were brought to Jhalokati Sadar Hospital.Around 10 a.m. on Saturday, the bus lost control and plunged into a pond next to Dhansiri Union Parishad in Jhalokati Sadar upazila. As soon as they arrived, police and firefighters began the rescue effort with the assistance of residents.
Around 10 a.m., a local bus traveling from Pirojpur to Barishal reportedly lost control and plunged into a pond next to Dhansiri Union Parishad, according to the police and witnesses. No one was able to exit the bus right away since the glass was broken.
Jhalokati Fire Service personnel said that the rescue operation is going on and it is not possible to give information at this time. The death toll has yet to be ascertained. A search is underway inside the bus, they said.
