15-year-old boy brutally tortured for stealing in Bagerhat; 3 arrested



Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: In Rampal, Bagerhat, a 15-year-old kid called Yasin Arafat was brutally tortured and attempted to kill on the pretense of shoplifting. Sarwar Hawlader, the accused, was thrown inside the home on Friday (July 21) at 9:30 am. He was also severely assaulted.

The boy's father, Aliyar Hawlader, filed a case with Rampal Police Station, accusing him of attempting murder. The victim was admitted to Rampal Upazila Health Complex.

SM Ashraful Alam, OC of the Rampal Police Station, hurried to the scene. He then took the three suspects into custody. The defendants are Keramat Hawlader, 50, a son of the late Mozammel Hawlader; Mahmud Islam, 25, a son of Shahidul Majhi; Md. Nasim Hawlader, 36; and Sarwar Hawlader, 60, a son of the late Mozammel Hawlader.

Sarwar and his wife Akli are among those who have fled. The defendants have been brought before a Bagerhat court of learned judges.

Rampal Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Sukanta Kumar Pal said, "The OC called me and informed me. The patient was admitted to the health complex at 3 am as his condition was critical. The patient is feeling a lot of pain as the neck injury is strong. But it's much better now than it used to be.

SM Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station, said they tried to kill Yasin by tying his hands and legs in a medieval manner with the false accusation of theft due to prior enmity. "We rushed to the spot and rushed the child to the hospital for treatment and arrested three persons involved in the incident. Efforts are on to arrest the others.
