10 members of the new militant outfit 'Imam Mahmud's Caravan', including a doctor couple, were arrested



Biswajit Mondal, Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Dr. Sohel Tanzim Rana of Sirajganj and his wife, Maisha Islam Hafsa have been missing since July 26 and have filed a general diary (GD) with the Enayetpur Police Station in Sirajganj. Meanwhile, on Saturday (August 12), the Counter Terrorism and Trans-National Unit of Police arrested ten people from their militant hideaway' of Kulaura in Moulvibazar. Maisha Islam Hafsa, Dr. Sohel Tanzim Rana's wife, is one of the ten people detained.

According to a Sirajganj police official, the counter-terrorism squad informed them that the wife of the missing doctor was among the ten people held in Kulaura.

Tanzim, according to a responsible official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism branch, was also at the 'militant hideaway'. But he got away. Tanzim's name was changed to 'Salman' by the official. However, little information is available on how they became engaged with the terrorist group.




The ten people arrested from their homes in Purba Tattti Uli village of Karmada union of Kulaura were members of the new militant organization 'Imam Mahmud's caravan,' according to the counter-terrorism unit.

The 'Operation Hillsite' operation resulted in the arrest of ten people, including the organization's leader. There are four guys and six ladies among them. They have three children with them.

Md. Asaduzzaman, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and head of the Counter Terrorism and Trans-National Unit, claimed the operation seized three kilos of explosives, 50 detonators, Tk 3.61 lakh in cash, and militant training materials.

Tanzim works at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital in Sirajganj's Enayetpur. His residence is in Porabari village, Sayedabad Union, Sirajganj. Tanzim, 27, lives on a leased property near work with his wife. His father, Helaluddin, stated in a GD filed with the Enayetpur Police Station that his son and wife had been missing since July 26.

According to Enayetpur Police Station ASI Abdul Alim, the GD's investigation officer, CCTV camera video showed Tanzim leaving the location with his wife in an auto-rickshaw on July 26.
