poet Mohammad Rafiq passes away. On Sunday night, about 9 o'clock, when he was
being taken from Barishal to Dhaka for medical care, he passed away. At 80
years old, he was He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
After abruptly becoming unwell at his rural home
in Chitli, Bagerhat, on Sunday morning, Kabir was transported to Bagerhat and
subsequently to Barishal. At a private clinic in Barishal, several tests
revealed a number of health issues, including cardiac issues. Later, physicians
suggested that he be sent to Dhaka.
The poet passed away while traveling to Dhaka on
Sunday evening with family members in search of better care.
Md. Shibli Hawlader, a teacher at Belayet
Hossain Degree College and Kabir's relative, confirmed the details. His body
was taken to his Bagerhat village home. There will be a burial. For a very long
period, Mohammad Rafiq had been suffering from bodily problems, including old
age.
On October 23, 1943, in the Baitpur hamlet of
the Bemarta union of the Bagerhat Sadar upazila, poet Mohammad Rafiq was born.
The eighth child born to his parents, Shamsuddin Ahmed and Reshatun Nahar, is
Mohammad Rafiq. Growing up, Mohammad Rafiq resided in Bagerhat.
He was admitted into the 11th grade in the
science department of Notre Dame College in Dhaka after successfully completing
matriculation. But later on, he was admitted into Dhaka College's humanities
program. He got admitted into the English Department of Rajshahi Government
College after graduating from higher secondary school in 1961, where he went on
to earn his degree. His M.A. in English Language and Literature from The
University of Dhaka was awarded to him in 1967. He graduated with an A. While
studying at the university, he became involved in the student movement against
the military rule of Pakistan. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Pakistani
military court. But M. A. He was released for examination. In 1971, he worked
first in Sector 1 of the Liberation War and later at Swadhin Bangla Betar
Kendra.
After teaching in different colleges after the
Liberation War, he joined the Department of English at Jahangirnagar
University. He taught at Jahangirnagar University till June 29, 2009. He
received the Ekushey Padak in 2010.
Mohammad Rafiq, known as a thoughtful modern
poet, graduated from Khulna Zilla School in 1958. His debut as a poet was in
the 1960s. In 1970, his first book of poems, 'Baishakhi Purnima, was published.
In 1976, his second book of poetry was published, Dhular Songsare Eai Mati.’
