Voice 9, International Desk: On August 26, the
Manipuri diaspora organized a peace march in The Hague under the auspices of
the Global Manipur Federation Central Europe Chapter, appealing for support and
the quick restoration of peace in the violent state.
Several Meitei women who were wearing their traditional mourning clothes
participated in the march and spoke about the importance of peace in Manipur.
The attendees also carried signs with inscriptions like "Stand strong,
uphold indigenous rights" and "Plant the seed of peace, not
poppy."
The two minutes of silence for the victims of the Manipur communal violence
were followed by the start of the peace march. Thereafter, community leaders
spoke and offered a prayer. A symbolic stroll from the Peace Palace to a nearby
town called Lange Vijverberg marked the end of the march.
