Seven passengers, including six Indians, were killed in a bus accident in Mexico

Voice 9, News Desk: In the early hours of Thursday, a passenger bus carrying six Indians crashed into a 164-foot-deep mountainside in the western Mexican state of Nayarit, leaving 17 people dead and 23 others wounded.

Six Indians were reportedly present on the bus, which was a member of the Elite passenger line, when it left Mexico City on Wednesday, according to a source with the Nayarit firefighting department, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Tijuana, a border town across from southern California, was the bus's final destination. According to a list of survivors released by the Mexican newspaper El Financiero, four of the Indian nationals were named as Rajan Singh, 21, Mandip Kumar, 22, Adama Kane, 46, and Hanidou Kane, according to the British daily.

Francisco, the driver, survived the collision and was taken into custody for the duration of the inquiry. He admitted to the detectives that he dozed off at the wheel and finally lost control of the car before it slammed into a railing.

First responders could be seen in the footage stumbling down the slope in search of survivors.

According to the Mail, Jorge Rodrguez, the state of Nayarit's secretary of security and civil protection, told reporters that the rescue effort was "extremely difficult" because of how deep the ravine was.

Last month, another bus crash in the southern state of Oaxaca left 29 people dead, and in February, a bus carrying migrants from South and Central America crashed in central Mexico, killing 17 people.

Meanwhile, the AP reported: "Many of the passengers on a bus that tumbled down a steep hillside in western Mexico, killing 18 and injuring nearly two dozen, were migrants headed for Tijuana at the U.S.-Mexico border, Mexican authorities said.
