700-year-old statue of Lord Ganesha is on the precipice of an active volcano

Voice 9, International Desk: This 700-year-old statue of Lord Ganesha is situated on the precipice of an active volcano. While many Ganesha temples are present throughout the country, it is noteworthy that an idol of Lord Ganesha is located in Mount Bromo, Indonesia. The region is home to 141 volcanoes, of which 130 are still active, including Mount Bromo.

The statue of Ganapati has been present in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java Province for 700 years. The local community believes that Lord Ganesha safeguards them from volcano eruptions. In addition to the worship of Lord Ganesha, floral and fruit offerings are presented as a customary practice. It is believed that failure to do so may result in the eruption of the volcano, leading to the destruction of the inhabitants.
The significance of the Ganesha idol is immense, as the entire region of Indonesia has 127 active volcanoes, and approximately 5 million people reside within the danger zones. The legends of the Tengger massif tribe assert that their ancestors installed the Ganesha idol 700 years ago, and they continue to offer numerous offerings to the deity.
