Voice 9, Mexico: A tragic incident occurred on
Friday in southern Mexico, where a bus carrying dozens of Venezuelan migrants
overturned, resulting in the loss of 18 lives and injuries to 29 individuals,
according to officials.
The bus, which was transporting approximately 55
migrants, met with an accident on a highway in the state of Oaxaca. The state's
Civil Protection Agency, as reported on the platform formerly known as Twitter,
stated that the majority of the passengers were of Venezuelan origin. The
National Migration Institute confirmed that among the identified deceased, 11
were men, two were women, and three were minors.
Additionally, the institute disclosed that out
of the injured individuals, 28 were from Venezuela and one was from Peru. The
exact cause of the crash and whether other vehicles were involved have not been
revealed. Photographs shared on social media by Oaxaca's Civil Protection
Agency depicted the overturned bus, displaying visible damage to its roof.
The injured, whose conditions remain unknown,
were promptly transported to local hospitals in the surrounding areas. Salomón
Jara Cruz, the governor of Oaxaca, expressed his condolences and announced that
state authorities were assisting those affected by the accident in a
Spanish-language post.
"We deeply mourn the tragic accident that
occurred on the Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan highway, resulting in the loss of several
migrants," he stated.
"Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the
families of the deceased, and we extend our unwavering support and solidarity
to the injured."
Similarly, Sergio Salomón, the governor of
Puebla, expressed his distress over the incident in a Spanish-language post and
conveyed his support to the victims and their families.
