Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Afsana Akhter, a female police officer, tragically lost her life in a motorcycle accident in Savar, Dhaka. The incident occurred in the Hemayetpur area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway on Thursday, November 23, around 3:30 p.m.
Her husband, who was accompanying her, also sustained injuries and has
been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Afsana Akhter was serving as a
constable in the 11th Armed Police Battalion (APBN). Unfortunately, her
husband's identity remains unknown at this time. According to the police, the
couple was riding a motorcycle on the Arichamukhi road when they were struck by
a speeding bus from behind, belonging to Selfie Transport.
As a result, they fell onto the road along with their motorcycle.
Tragically, Afsana Akhter lost her life at the scene, while her husband was
rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Police Inspector Russell Molla, in
charge of the Tannery police outpost under the Savar police station, confirmed
that Afsana Akhter's body was recovered by the highway police. Her husband's
condition remains critical.
They were heading towards Nabinagar on a scooter, but it is still
unclear who was driving the motorcycle. Sheikh Abul Hasan, the
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Highway Police Station, stated that efforts are
underway to recover the deceased's body and bring it to the police station. The
authorities are actively pursuing the arrest of the responsible driver and the
bus. Legal proceedings are currently ongoing.
