New Guinea volcano eruption: Tsunami fears

 


Voice 9, International Desk: Today, a volcano in Papua New Guinea, situated in Oceania, erupted, causing concerns about potential tsunamis in the region. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) stated that it was evaluating the risk that this eruption posed to its coastal areas. Mount Ulawan, the volcano in question, erupted at 3:30 p.m. local time (0630 GMT) on the island of New Britain. The JMA reported that the eruption resulted in smoke reaching a height of 15,000 meters, according to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center in Darwin, Australia. The agency is currently assessing the potential impact of the volcanic eruption, including the risk of a tsunami reaching Japan.
