Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: The dead dolphin that was found floating in the Chila canal near the Pasur River in Mongla, Bagerhat, was buried by the CPG members of the forest department. On Saturday morning, the freshwater dolphin was discovered in the Chila canal before the fellowship church in the Chila area of Chandpai Union.
The villagers found the dead
dolphin in the pasture and informed the CPG members, who then informed the
forest department about the situation. Following the decision of the forest
department, the dead dolphin was buried in the canal at around 10 a.m. CPG
member Amiya Sardar mentioned that the dead dolphin had a baby in its stomach,
suggesting that it may have died during childbirth.
The dolphin's body had no
wounds but was bleeding. However, Azad Kabir, the officer-in-charge of Karamjal
Tourism and Wildlife Breeding Center, stated that the lower jaw of the dead
dolphin was broken, indicating that it may have died after getting trapped in a
net and breaking its jaw. The dead dolphin was a full-grown adult, estimated to
be 12 to 13 years old.
