A businessman was stabbed to death for not selling cigarettes



Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Bahauddin and Jalal Uddin, two smokers, stabbed a shopkeeper named Manik (32), father of three children, to death for not giving him a cigarette in Titas Baqi, Comilla.

The incident took place at noon on Thursday at Bhuiya House in Kanainagar village of the upazila. The deceased is Mofazzel Hossain, son of Abdul Jabbar of the village.

Taslima Akhter, wife of the deceased, said: "Bahauddin, son of Nayeb Ali of the neighboring Bhuiyan house, asked my husband Manik for a cigarette. But since there were no cigarettes in the store, my husband said there were no cigarettes. Bahauddin got tired of this, and at one stage of the argument with my husband, he went home. After that, Bahauddin came out of his house in front of his father, Mokhles, took his brother Jalaluddin with him, and beat up my husband.

They had already collected a lot of money with the rest of it and had beaten my husband several times when he asked for that money.

He was taken to Titas Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, while he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Titas police station officer-in-charge Kanchan Kanti Das said: "We heard that a shopkeeper named Manik was stabbed to death for not giving cigarette arrears. The police are trying to reach the spot and nab the killers.
