A 26-year-old Indian student dies in US after falling into a waterfall

Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, hailing from Chityala in Gopalapuram Mandal, situated in the east Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, met his demise on the 7th of July at Barberville Falls in Albany. This 26-year-old individual from Andhra Pradesh tragically drowned after an unfortunate incident at a waterfall in Albany, New York State, as confirmed by India's Consulate. This event adds to a series of tragedies that have affected the community.

The Consulate expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Mr. Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, a student at Trine University, who lost his life on the 7th of July at Barberville Falls, Albany, NY. They offered sincere condolences to his bereaved family and friends. @IndiainNewYork is providing all necessary aid, including the issuance of a NOC for the repatriation of Mr. Gadde's remains to India. The Consulate General of India in New York shared these details late on Monday night.

The student's LinkedIn profile indicated his enrollment at Trine University in the US state of Indiana for the 2023–24 academic session. On the fateful day of July 7, the student, accompanied by his elder sister's family, visited a friend's residence and later ventured to witness the nearby waterfalls. Tragically, he accidentally fell into the waterfall, leading to his untimely demise.

In 2024, more than half a dozen Indian students and others will have lost their lives in the US. Just last month, 32-year-old Dasari Gopikrishna, a recent arrival in the US, was fatally shot during a robbery at a convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas, on June 21. The Consulate General of India in New York has established a dedicated platform to assist Indian students pursuing their education in the US.
