Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: In the northern part of Feni, Bangladesh, more than a
hundred villages in three upazilas—Fulgazi, Parshuram, and Chhagalnaiya—are
affected by dangerous floods. Roads, bridges, and homes have been submerged.
The waters of the Mohuri, Kohua, and Silonia rivers flow over the affected
areas.
In Fulgazi upazila, more than 40 villages in the Sadar Union, Anandapur,
Munsirhat, and Amzadhat Unions are flooded. In Parshuram, over 45 villages,
including Mirjanagar, Chithlia, Boxmahmud, and the municipality, are submerged
in water.
In Chhagalnaiya, several villages in Pathan Nagar, Radhanagar, and Shubhpur
Unions are also experiencing flooding. The areas are filled with submerged
roads, bridges, ponds, and agricultural lands.
In some areas, the roofs and walls of people's homes have been touched by the floodwaters.
In such circumstances, locals are seeking shelter. Local authorities and
various volunteer organizations have come together to provide relief and
assistance to those affected by the floods.
At the beginning of last month, breaches were observed in 15 locations along
the Mohuri, Kohua, and Silonia rivers. After repairs, at the start of the
following month, 12 more breaches were reported in embankments. These breaches
have led to flooding in over a hundred villages, causing damage to infrastructure,
crops, and fisheries worth 30 crore taka. Just 15 days later, the floods have
returned.
Feni District Administrator Musammat Shahina Akhtar stated that the
administration is actively engaged in relief and rescue operations.
Abul Kashem, the Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Water Development Board,
mentioned that the water level of the Mohuri River is flowing above the danger
mark of 86 centimeters.
Munir Hossain, the supervisor of the Feni Meteorological Office, reported a
record of 97 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
