Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Two teachers of Moslim Uddin High School in the Kamal
Kasna area of Rangpur have been suspended for allegedly asking Hindu students
to wear hijab.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal told reporters that the decision
was taken at a meeting on Wednesday (September 25) after some students
protested about it.
On Thursday (September 26), he said, two teachers of Moslem Uddin High
School told the students of the Hindu community to wear hijab or said different
things about reading the Gita. This led to tension among the students of the
school. Two teachers have been suspended in connection with the incident. They
have been asked to reply within 10 working days. An investigation will be done,
and action will be taken against them.
A video of the protest was circulated on social media on Wednesday morning.
Later in the evening, a meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner's office.
After the meeting, it was decided to suspend the headmaster of the school,
Mostafizur Rahman, and the teacher of the Islam religion, Maulana Mostafizur
Rahman. Both teachers have denied the allegations.
The students alleged that the headmaster and the teacher of Islam in the
assembly of the school recently instructed the Muslims as well as the Hindus to
wear hijab. They also protested on the school campus on Wednesday. This has
created tension in the school as well as in the locality. Later, the school
management committee, political leaders, Hindu community leaders, and parents
reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
In the video, a student alleged that her teacher had asked her to memorize
the Quran and wear a hijab or veil. If there is no screen, the body will be
seen by the boys. Again, the teachers in the class insulted them.
"Another student said," "Sir tells us in class, how many
Hindu girls are you?" "" "Why don't you wear a mask? We
say, sir, why do we wear the hijab? We don't wear hijabs; we wear scarves. But
sir says that you don't wear hijab." The student also said that the
teacher spoke to them" "badly" "in the class."
Some of the students alleged that the teachers talked about idol worship and
Hindu religion. Although the Quran was recited in the assembly, the Gita was
not recited due to lack of time. However, after the students complained about it,
the Gita recitation started. But now the Gita has been stopped again.
In the video, the students can be seen shouting slogans demanding justice.
Parents were also present at the school. However, the principal of the school
denied the allegations.
"What happened in my school about girls wearing hijab is a conspiracy.
We said in the assembly, girls, you will come wearing a scarf with a school
dress. We never talked about wearing the hijab.
On the other hand, Maulana Mustafizur Rahman, a teacher of Islam religion,
said, 'Brother, I have no class of Islam religion. I'm not a Hindu. One is
doing this by not being able to get his brother into school as a teacher. God
will judge him. I don't have anything more to say.
