Voice 9, News Desk: Twenty-four days after leaving a rented house, the owner
of the house on Tarakeswar Mahavidyalaya Road in Hooghly district of West
Bengal has demanded money from a journalist. In this regard, the journalist
said that the whole matter was motivated and illegal and asked the person for
proper proof and a copy of the certificate signed between him as the house
owner and tenant of the house at the time of renting the house.
The journalist also claimed that at the time they left the house, they kept
the bathroom, kitchen, and other rooms clean because they had been living there
until that day. Even when they left the house, the landlord saw everything and
said" "OK" "and allowed them to go with their belongings."
But strangely, after 23 days of this incident, he claimed that he had spent Rs
1500 to clean the house; this money will now have to be paid to the tenant.
The tenant journalist said they lived in the man's house as tenants from
August 2022 to August 2024. They left the house on September 1 this year
because they were trapped in water in their rented flat a total of five times that
month. In late August, he and three members of his family (his son, daughter,
and wife) spent a day locked in the room with water mixed with feces. Forced to
leave the house, they told the owner on WhatsApp that they would leave the
house on September 1 or 2 so that they could not live in this condition.
The house owner was also asked to remit the remaining amount, excluding the
last two months' electricity bill charges and the last month’s rent of Rs.
7000.00 and the municipality's free water charge of Rs. 200.00 (August 2024),
from the Rs 10,000 sent to him through the bank in July 2022 as an advance. The
journalist alleged that the water falling from the roof of the house owner
destroyed the expensive notes of his daughter’s NET exam left on the floor of
the two-room flat rented by the journalist on the ground floor, which is
estimated to be worth Rs 21,000; the computer's CPU was damaged by the water.
When he complained about everything to the owner of the house, he said to stay
in this state, otherwise leave."
What happened next was even worse. The journalist alleged that water from
the bathroom pan touched the idol of Shiva kept inside the room and defiled the
idol kept on the ground. In this situation, when his wife informed the owner of
the house, he asked her to leave by making bitter comments to her. The
journalist and his family had to spend a day in the house. The journalist's
family cleaned the house on their own. The owner of the house called people to
clean the chamber and started throwing garbage on the road leading to the
school next to the house, through which many students of Tarakeswar
Mahavidyalaya, an English-medium school, an open school, and Netaji Open
University passed. When the local residents protested, he did not clean it
again. The journalist said that the landlord sent him a bill on WhatsApp and
falsely demanded money without any proof.
The house owner demanded Rs. 1277 from the deposit by the journalist for
cleaning the house and repairing the electric line. And the strange thing is
that this claim was raised 23 days after leaving the house. The journalist said
he had repeatedly asked for a copy of the deed signed by the landlord in March
2023, but he was not given it. Only the two are read after signing. While
writing the contract, he also took a copy of his signed Aadhaar card from the
journalist.
Now, the journalist has asked the owner of the house for a copy of the deed
and WhatsApped it to him, saying that he wants to see if what was written in
the house contract of that day has been accepted. The day they left the house,
the journalist asked for mobile photos of the time when the house owner was
checking the houses in the presence of everyone as evidence of the way he had
illegally demanded money from him to clean up the mess. Including the date and
evidence of the appearance of the four members of the journalist’s family.
The journalist also said that if the house was really dirty that day, why
did he allow the goods to go without money? Why did it take him 22 days to
realize that the house was dirty? Whether he is dirtying his house, pretending
to clean it, a trap to extort money, or making a strange complaint for fear of
returning the deposited money. Why doesn't he want to show proof?
According to the journalist, the clause for collecting the damage was
written in the letter of the day; if the doors and windows of the house, the
deck of the kitchen, or the basin were damaged, they would have to leave the
house with compensation while leaving the house. The money he demanded for it
is not in anyone's record, nor was it here. So he is not bringing out the
contract letter for fear of being caught on what he is falsely claiming. ? And
the journalist said that there may be another reason for this; he may not be
the owner of the house.
However, the local municipality can confirm this. Another thing he did, where his lie was caught, was that he used to take 200 rupees every month from the tenant for free water of the municipality; despite receiving the money in June 2024, he demanded that money again. Now, the journalist said, if the man can claim compensation for dirtying the house without proof, then he should also be compensated for the damage he suffered while living in the house, in the water that came out of the house of the owner, and in the bathroom.
The biggest thing is to touch the water mixed with excreta on the idol of
God, which hurts the religious beliefs of his family because the owner of the
house said he didn’t care if the water mixed with excreta touched the idol. He
said, “Stay here, or get out.” However, the owner of the house was asked to
send a signed claim with proper proof of the dirty rooms in their presence and
a copy of the house- rental -contract. The journalist informed him on WhatsApp
on the 24th, but, to date, he has not responded.
