Police Station in Jessore, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel recovered
gold bars worth Tk 2.5 crore from the Daulatpur border. The police arrested
three traffickers. The gold bars that were confiscated weigh 2 kg (940 grams).
The gold bars were found at Baropota Bazar near the Daulatpur border, according
to Lieutenant Colonel Tanvir Rahman, commander of Khulna-21 BGB, at about 11:30
on Wednesday.
The arrestees were identified as Saidur Rahman
Majed, 33, son of Mohiuddin of Pirojpur village in Kaliganj upazila of
Jhenaidah district; Saiful Islam, 36, son of Nasir Ali of Bagdanga village in
Jessore Sadar; and Masud Chowdhury Babu, 31, son of Rezaul Chowdhury of
Nischintapur village in Sharsha upazila.
On the basis of a tip concerning gold smuggling,
according to BGB official Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, a special patrol unit of the
BGB set up shop near the Baropota Bazar area of the Daulatpur border. Three
suspects were detained in an alien private vehicle. Four gold bars were found
after the examination of their bodies. It weighs 2 kilograms (940 grams) and is
worth Tk 2.65 crore in the market.
According to the BGB officer, a complaint
against the three smugglers will be filed at the Benapole Port Police Station,
and the shipment will be placed at Jessore's Treasury branch. 21 BGB members
have taken 100 kg of gold bars during the past year. About Rs 100 crore is the
caesar's market value.
