Voice 9, International Desk: Prior to the G20 Summit, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, expressed his anticipation for his upcoming trip to India.
He voiced his disappointment over the absence of
his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, at the summit in New Delhi. The White
House recently announced that President Biden will participate in the G20
Summit and hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on
September 8.
When asked by a reporter if he was looking
forward to his visits to India and Vietnam, President Biden confirmed his
excitement. During the summit, President Biden will commend Prime Minister Modi
for his leadership of the G20. India assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1,
2020, and the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi will mark the culmination of all the
G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year.
The G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted at
the conclusion of the summit, stating the leaders’ commitment towards the
priorities discussed and agreed upon during the respective ministerial and
working group meetings.
The G20 comprises 19 countries and the European
Union. Despite efforts to repair relations with Beijing, President Biden
expressed disappointment over Premier Xi Jinping's absence at the summit.
During his visit to India, President Biden and
fellow G20 partners will discuss joint efforts to tackle global issues,
including the clean energy transition, combating climate change, mitigating the
economic and social impacts of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and increasing the
capacity of multilateral development banks.
