Voice 9, New Delhi Bureau: It is feared that a minimum of four individuals have lost their lives and several others have sustained injuries subsequent to the derailment of six coaches of the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express in Buxar, Bihar, on Wednesday.
The North East Express, which
departed from Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi, was en route to Kamakhya Junction
in Guwahati, Assam, when six coaches of the train derailed at 9:53 p.m. The
Railway Ministry stated that "Train number 12506 (Anand Vihar Terminal to
Kamakhya) was traversing the main line of Raghunathpur station. Six coaches
were derailed." According to reports, two AC III Tier coaches overturned,
while four other coaches derailed. The Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw,
stated that rescue operations, which were being conducted "on a war
footing," have been concluded.
A railway
official also stated that an investigation would be conducted to determine the
cause of the derailment. Birendra Kumar, the Chief Public Relations Officer
(CPRO) of the East Central RailwayZonee, stated that approximately 50
individuals were injured, according to information The district administration
has reported that a number of individuals have sustained injuries as a result
of the incident. The local community, in conjunction with the district
administration, has undertaken rescue efforts, with those who have sustained
critical injuries being referred to AIIMS Patna. Railway officials are
currently present at the site, with trains being diverted through two
alternative routes.
According to
Kumar, the district administration has indicated that approximately 50
individuals have been injured. At present, 18 trains, including the Rajdhani
Express between Delhi and Dibrugarh, have been diverted from the affected
route.
Railway
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed that a rescue operation is currently
underway, with the NDRF, SDRF, district administration, railway officials, and
local residents working together as a cohesive team. The injured have been
transported to the hospital, with a war room being established to coordinate
efforts.
Union
Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, who is also the MP of Buxar, has been informed
of the derailment and is en route to Raghunathpur. He has spoken with railway
and district officials regarding the incident and has appealed to workers to
engage in rescue efforts. Medical teams have been dispatched to the site, and a
rescue operation is currently underway.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister
Tejashwi Yadav said he spoke to officials from the Disaster Management
Department, Health Department of Buxar and Bhojpur. He instructed them to reach
the spot as soon as possible and speed up the rescue work and make proper
medical arrangements for the injured.
