Voice 9,
International Desk: The Gaza Strip is currently experiencing a severe power
outage, while the death toll continues to rise. According to Israeli
authorities, at least 1,200 individuals have lost their lives and 2,900 others
have been injured as a result of an unprecedented incursion launched by the
militant group Hamas on Saturday.
Hamas has
fired thousands of rockets toward Israel, and approximately 1,000 fighters have
crossed into the country from the neighboring Gaza Strip. Israeli officials
have reported that at least 100 civilians and soldiers have been taken hostage.
In response, the Israel Defense Forces have declared a state of alert for war
and launched retaliatory airstrikes on Gaza.
The Gaza
Strip, a 140-square-mile territory where 2 million Palestinians reside, has
been under blockade by neighboring Israel and Egypt since Hamas seized power in
2007. Palestinian authorities have reported that at least 1,100 individuals
have died and another 5,339 have been injured in Gaza since Saturday. It is
worth noting that, unlike Israel, the Gaza Strip lacks air raid sirens or bomb
shelters.
President
Joe Biden has recently spoken with President Mohamed bin Zayed to discuss the
terrorist attacks on Israel. During the conversation, the president condemned
Hamas's terror and warned against anyone who might seek to exploit the current
situation. The two leaders also emphasized the importance of ensuring that
humanitarian assistance reaches those in need.
