International News Desk,Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that he was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer and underwent successful treatment, according to his annual medical report released this week.
The 76-year-old leader said doctors discovered a
small malignant tumor in his prostate during a routine medical check-up,
following continued monitoring after his 2024 prostate procedure. Netanyahu
stated that the cancer was detected at a very early stage and has since been completely treated with targeted radiation therapy,
leaving “no trace” of the disease.
According to the medical report, Netanyahu is
currently in good overall health and doctors have
found no signs of metastasis or remaining cancerous tissue.
Diagnosis Was Kept Secret
for Two Months
Netanyahu also admitted that he delayed publication of the medical report for nearly two months,
saying he did not want the information released during the height of Israel’s
military confrontation with Iran.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister, he
feared that Iranian media and political opponents could
exploit his health condition for propaganda purposes during
wartime.
“I asked that the report be delayed so our
enemies would not use it to spread false propaganda,” Netanyahu reportedly
said.
The disclosure comes after months of
speculation regarding the prime minister’s health amid regional tensions and
repeated social media rumors falsely claiming he had died. In March, Netanyahu
publicly appeared in Jerusalem and posted a video from a café to refute those
rumors.
Cancer Found During
Follow-Up After Earlier Surgery
Medical officials said the cancer was
discovered during routine follow-up examinations after Netanyahu underwent prostate surgery in late 2024 for a urinary tract
infection linked to benign prostate
enlargement.
Sources familiar with the matter said the
tumor was less than one centimeter in size and
localized entirely within the prostate, making it highly treatable. Netanyahu
reportedly began radiation therapy approximately two
and a half months ago and has since completed treatment
successfully.
Previous Health Concerns
This is not the first recent health issue
faced by the Israeli leader:
- In 2023,
Netanyahu had a pacemaker implanted
following heart rhythm concerns.
- In 2024,
he underwent treatment for a prostate-related urinary infection and
enlargement.
- He has also had several
hospital visits in recent years for routine and precautionary medical
checks.
Despite these issues, his doctors say
Netanyahu remains fit to continue carrying out his duties as prime minister.
Political Implications
Ahead of Election
The revelation comes at a politically
sensitive moment, with Israeli national elections
due by October 2026. Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime Minister, remains a dominant figure
in Israeli politics despite facing criticism over security policy, the Gaza
war, and corruption allegations.
Political analysts believe the disclosure of
his cancer treatment is unlikely to significantly
damage his electoral prospects, particularly since the cancer
was caught early and doctors report a full recovery.
However, opposition figures have renewed
criticism over the lack of transparency
regarding the prime minister’s health, arguing that the public
has a right to know about the medical condition of a sitting wartime leader.
Current Status
Netanyahu has insisted he is now in “excellent physical condition” and said the cancer
episode is fully behind him.
Doctors have recommended continued routine
monitoring, but as of now, the Israeli prime minister is said to be cancer-free and medically stable.
