Voice 9, Malda: A tragic accident occurred on the emotional path in Maldaha. Five lives were lost in a road accident on the national highway near the English Bazar police station in Gaudabang. Two more are feared dead.
It is known that on Saturday night, a jail van carrying seven prisoners was
heading from Kaliachak towards Malda. At that moment, on the national highway
near the Gaudabang police station, the jail van lost control and collided with
a truck. As a result, the front part of the jail van was crushed.
The incident took place at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night on National Highway
34 in the Kantagarh area of Malda's English Bazar police station. Although the
police could not identify the names and identities of the deceased, they have
informed us that they were between 19 and 21 years old. The homes of the
deceased and the injured are in the Alipur area of Kaliachak police station. It
was reported by the police that one of the passengers in the jail van involved
in this tragic accident was thrown out of the vehicle due to the impact. The
accident was so severe that the bodies of the passengers in the four-wheeler
were severely injured.
Upon receiving the news, the authorities of the National Highway Authority
and the local police went to the scene in a bloodied state and rescued the
seven individuals. Among them, five were pronounced dead at the scene. The
remaining two have already been admitted to Malda Medical College Hospital for
treatment.
Later, upon receiving news of the accident, the relatives of the deceased
and the injured gathered at Malda Medical College from the Alipur area of
Kaliachak police station late at night. According to the families of the
deceased, several friends had rented the four-wheeler in Malda town. Whether
such a tragedy would occur in the Kantagarh area is unknown. The English Bazar
police have initiated an investigation into the entire matter. The concerned
police station has informed us that efforts are being made to identify the
names and identities of the deceased and the injured.
