In his first response to the rape murder in Kolkata, PM Narendra Modi said, "Instill fear of punishment."

Voice 9, New Delhi: In a veiled allusion to the Kolkata doctor rape and murder atrocity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the necessity of stringent repercussions for individuals perpetrating these "abominable acts." During his 11th discourse to the nation from the bastions of the renowned Red Fort on Independence Day, PM Modi underscored the imperative for state administrations to address crimes against women with gravity and cultivate a climate of apprehension among offenders.

"I wish to reiterate my anguish today, from the Red Fort. As a collective, we must earnestly contemplate the heinous acts against women that persist—there is widespread indignation in the nation. I can sense this indignation. The nation, society, and state authorities must accord due seriousness to this matter. Prompt investigation of crimes against women and swift and stringent punishment for those perpetrating these abhorrent acts must be meted out promptly; this is crucial to fostering trust in society," articulated PM Modi.

PM Modi advocated for in-depth dialogues on the consequences awaiting perpetrators without explicitly referencing the gruesome incident, so that wrongdoers understand that transgressions against women result in severe penalties.
