Specialized teams had diligently engaged in the task of locating and identifying the victims following the crash of a twin-engine turboprop aircraft operated by Voepass in the town of Vinhedo. The fatality count was reassessed and elevated to 62 on Saturday.

Initially, Voepass indicated that the ATR 72-500 was transporting 57 passengers and four crew members from Cascavel in the state of Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo city. Subsequently, it was confirmed that there was an additional unaccounted-for passenger aboard the flight.

The flight data recorders from the aircraft have been successfully retrieved and transferred to a laboratory for thorough analysis following the tragic incident that claimed the lives of 58 passengers and four crew members, as reported by NBC News’ Marissa Parra.

Authorities in Valinhos affirmed the absence of any survivors, with only one residence in a local housing complex sustaining damage in the vicinity where the aircraft descended, fortunately without harm to any residents.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims earlier on Friday. In a solemn moment following the crash, he conveyed the somber news and called for a minute of silence to honor the departed souls.
