Army officers appointed as executive magistrates

 


Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: Army officers will serve as executive magistrates for the next two months in the ongoing situation in Bangladesh. This was revealed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday (September 17). 
It said that army officers will serve as executive magistrates for the next 60 days across the country. However, this does not apply to metropolitan areas.
According to the notification, this power has been delegated to the army under Section 12(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
According to the terms of appointment, the executive magistrates empowered under Section 17(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, will perform duties under the supervision of the concerned district magistrate. The notification said the order comes into force with immediate effect.
