Voice 9, International Desk: A significant disruption in the UK's air traffic control systems has left thousands of travelers stuck. According to reports, the interruption caused the cancellation of more than 1,200 flights.
National Air Traffic Services
(Nats) on Monday restricted the number of flights landing, leaving people
stranded in the UK and overseas, according to the BBC. Airports and airlines
issued a warning that there were still "significant delays" even
though the problem was resolved within hours.
Holidaymakers, many of whom were returning from vacation and
were scheduled to go back to work on Tuesday, prepared themselves for further
upheaval as airlines fought to reduce the backlog. Some knock-on disruptions
have been forewarned to endure for days.
The British news station quoted Heathrow as saying late on
Monday night that schedules were still seriously interrupted and that anybody
flying on Tuesday should call their airline before arriving at the airport.
Despite stating that it intended to run on a regular schedule on
Tuesday, Gatwick Airport encouraged travelers to contact their airline in
advance to confirm the status of their trip.
Additionally,
London Luton Airport reported on Monday night that there were still delays and
cancellations for aircraft throughout UK airspace..
