Nine killed in 6.8-magnitude earthquake in China

 

Sangbad Voice 9, News Desk: According to Xinhua, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Dingri county in Shigatse of Xizang Autonomous Region at 9:05 am on Tuesday has resulted in nine confirmed deaths. However, no precise figures have been made public as of yet.

 According to Xinhua News Agency, a house fell in the area. To conduct rescue operations, the local authorities have gathered workers from the transportation, water, housing, and urban-rural development sectors, as well as township officials and village cadres.

The epicenter is located 379 kilometers from the regional capital Lhasa, 34 kilometers from Dinggye County, 36 kilometers from Dingri County, and 164 kilometers from Shigatse City.

 According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Shigatse Fire Brigade mobilized and put 75 personnel and six trucks on standby around 9:20 a.m. In addition, a forward team consisting of fifteen people and three automobiles was traveling to the earthquake's epicenter.

215 people, including 90 members of the Special Operations team and the forward leadership of the Xizang Forest Fire Brigade, which is made up of 10 men and three vehicles, were on their way to the epicenter by 9:45 a.m.
