Voice 9 Sangbad International Desk: Late Monday, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake in southwest Japan caused two minor tsunamis, but no damage was reported. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 36 kilometers, approximately 18 kilometers off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture in the Kyushu region, at approximately 21:19 pm (1219 GMT).
The public was advised to avoid coastal waters by the Japan Meteorological
Agency (JMA), which warned of potential tsunami waves of up to one meter (three
feet). "Tsunamis can occur frequently. The JMA stated on X, "Please
do not go near coastal areas or enter the sea." According to the weather
service, two ports in the area experienced two minor tsunamis, each measuring
about 20 centimeters.
